👋 Welcome to The Abundant Analyst: a tactical resource for early-to-mid career analysts, program managers, and other generalist roles in technology organizations. In this issue, I expand on my first publication, Introductions, by defining an early content roadmap and target audience for the newsletter. Thanks for reading! Sam
I’ve always loved the excitement of building something new. Last Tuesday, I published Introductions, the first issue of The Abundant Analyst. If you haven’t read it already, you can, here.
Now that I’ve had a few days to collect myself and reread that introduction, I’d like to add a second part to it; one that unpacks my vision for The Abundant Analyst. My hope is that this issue informs how and for whom this writing will be most valuable. In other words, this is my value proposition — please sit back and relax while I pitch you my newsletter.
Target Audience
Most importantly, The Abundant Analyst is for anyone who enjoys reading it.
That said, below is the persona that I see benefiting most from the newsletter. In addition to being an earlier career generalist, this reader is:
hungry to learn from and build successful organizations
driven to develop as a top-performer in a current or future role
intentional in their practice of the craft of working with people
ready to develop their network of like-minded generalists
Content Types
I can’t yet be definitive about the types of content that I’ll share. It’s early on and the target, as they say, is moving. Not super helpful, I recognize.
What is helpful, no doubt, is for me to share the types of content that I’ll publish in the coming weeks. Drum roll, please.
Content Type 1: Game Tape
Like how great athletes meticulously study past performances, we too will study the past for the sake of our development. To start, I’ll share a generalist business scenario, lived or hypothetical, and will discuss how the scenario was executed and how that execution could have been improved. I’m hoping for *lively* discussion in the comments and/or notes.
Content Type 2: Learn from Leaders
With this type of content, I’ll interview generalist leaders and share their rare gems of knowledge. There are so many fantastic generalists in technology and my hypothesis is that the best way for us to level-up as generalists is to learn from the best and pattern match.
Content Type 3: Curated Job Board
Here, I’ll provide a list of open roles that I would consider investigating further, were I looking for earlier-career generalist roles in technology organizations. Honestly, I’m a bit shaky on this one; if it’s useful, I’ll keep it; otherwise, bye.
Depending on how these go (as measured by a mixture of your feedback and how much I enjoy creating these content types 🙂), I’ll curate a higher-structure content plan for the future and share it out.
To start, I will release content two times per week.
What else would you like to see in this newsletter? Let me know how I can benefit your career as a generalist in the comments!
Take care,
Sam
